Area students receive chamber scholarship
The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce announced the students honored with the annual Betty Charlton Scholarship for 2015 at the chamber’s June luncheon last week.
Michaela Mense, a graduate of Mill Valley High School, and Anna Lang, a graduate of Brighton Academy, are this year’s recipients.
The scholarship was founded in memory of Betty Charlton, a long-time Chamber employee, to provide educational assistance to outstanding area high-school seniors. The scholarship selection committee focused on community involvement and leadership skills to select the winner. Mense and Lang met or exceeded all of the criteria for this scholarship with outstanding extracurricular, academic achievement and community activities, according to the chamber.
Michaela will attend the University of Kansas and plans to study Theatre and Voice, and Anna will attend Washburn University and will study International Business/Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
