SMNW takes fifth at Sunflower League swimming
The Shawnee Mission Northwest and Shawnee Mission North girls swimming and diving teams finished fifth and 10th, respectively, at the 2015 Sunflower League Championships over the weekend at Chisholm Trail Middle School in Olathe.
The Lady Cougars scored a total of 100 points, preceded by champion Lawrence Free State (368), Shawnee Mission East (334), Olathe Northwest (177) and Lawrence (111). The Lady Indians, meanwhile, finished with a total of 42 points.
Hailey Brull led the way for SM Northwest, taking second place in both the 100-yard butterfly (58.10) and the 10-yard breaststroke (1:09.51). Teammate Meaghan Bower took third place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.43) and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (59.98).
The Lady Cougars’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Paige Eichkorn, Claire Williams, Bower and Brull took fifth place with a time of 3:53.35. SM Northwest’s 200-yard medley relay team placed seventh with a time of 1:56.62. That team was comprised of Brull, Bower, Eichkorn and Jessica Kirchner.
SM North’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Amanda Enyart, Hope McAlexander, Caitlyn Howard and Joely Merriman took sixth place with a time of 1:49.27. Merriman also took seventh place in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.06) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.41).
