Mill Valley girls win 15th straight league track title
The Mill Valley girls track and field team won a 15th straight Kaw Valley League championship on Wednesday evening at Basehor-Linwood High School, beating out the rest of the competition by more than 50 points.
The Lady Jaguars scored a total of 180 points, outlasting runner-up Lansing (123.5) and third-place finisher Basehor-Linwood (120). Piper (66), Tonganoxie (65.5), Bishop Ward (19), Bonner Springs (16) and Turner (10) rounded out the field.
Mill Valley produced several individual league champions, including Ellie Wilson in the 400-meter dash (59.61), Holly Webb in the 100-meter hurdles (16.00), Morgan Thomas in the high jump (5-02.00), Taylor Corbitt in the pole vault (9-00.00) and Gabby Hopkins in the shot put (38-03.25).
The Lady Jaguars also took first place in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 10:00.64. That team was comprised of Isabella Hadden, Britton Nelson, Wilson and Ally Henderson.
Mill Valley’s second-place finishers included Wilson in the 800-meter run (2:26.62), Anna Clayborn in the 3,200-meter run (12:15.84), Webb in the 300-meter hurdles (51.42), Megan Eckman in the high jump (5-00.00) and Corbitt in the triple jump (34-02.25).
The Lady Jaguars’ 4x100-meter relay team of Webb, Corbitt, Emma Hansen and Jasmine Cousins took second place with a time of 51.66. Mill Valley’s 4x400-meter relay team of Isabella Hadden, Hansen, Wilson and Margo Wieschhaus also took second with a time of 4:13.39.
Third-place finishers for Mill Valley included Wieschhaus in both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs (2:27.56, 5:23.92), Aaliyah Shawger in the high jump (5-00.00) and Morgan Thomas in the javelin (100-07).
Fourth-place finishers for the Lady Jaguars included Lauren Mansfield in the pole vault (7-06.00), Webb in the triple jump (33-05.75), Madison Holland in the discus (95-10) and Brynn Johnston in the javelin (98-09).
Fifth-place finishers included Hadden in the 400-meter dash (1:02.57), Clayborn in the 1,600-meter run (5:38.14), Nelson in the 3,200-meter run (12:40.70) and Corbitt in the long jump (15-02.25).
Sixth-place finishers included Hansen in both the 200- and 400-meter dash events (27.90, 1:02.85), Emma Tibbetts in the 3,200-meter run (13:04.52) and Courtney Carlson in the javelin (84-04).
Seventh-place finishers included Amber Akin in the 1,600-meter run (5:42.88), Miranda Toland in the 300-meter hurdles (54.82) and Abigail Archibong in the shot put (32-01.50).
