As the high school wrestling season draws closer, two local schools are once again near the top of the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association’s preseason rankings.

Mill Valley and St. James Academy checked in at Nos. 2 and 4 in the rankings, respectively, after successful seasons in 2014-15. The Thunder took second place at the KSHSAA Class 5A state tournament, and the Jaguars took fourth place, the best finish in school history.

Goddard, the defending state champion, came in at No. 1 in the rankings. Arkansas (3) and Pittsburg (5), Andover (6), Shawnee Heights (7), Salina Central (8), Kapaun Mt. Carmel (9) and Topeka Seaman (10) also made the cut.

Seven wrestlers from Mill Valley were individually ranked, including sophomore Connor Ward (No.1, 126 pounds), sophomore Hayden Koepke (No.3, 160), junior Dylan Gowin (No. 3, 113), junior Jett Bendure (No. 4, 138), sophomore Jarrett Bendure (No. 5, 132), senior Seth Bendure (No. 5, 170) and senior Peyton Bendure (No. 5 182).
