Mill Valley cross country teams win Cat Classic

The Mill Valley High School cross country program captured a pair of victories at its own Cat Classic at Shawnee Mission Park on Thursday evening, as both the boys and girls teams outlasted the competition.

The Lady Jaguars dominated the rest of the field, finishing with a total score of 40. Pembroke Hill (80), Blue Valley (91), St. Thomas Aquinas (100) and Olathe North (183) rounded out the top five. Maranatha Christian Academy (220) finished eighth, De Soto (231) took 10th, and Shawnee Mission North (286) was 13th. Fourteen teams competed in the varsity race.

Senior Amber Akin led the way for Mill Valley, finishing second overall with a time of 20:17.00. Sophomore Britton Nelson (sixth place, 20:42.34), junior Anna Clayborn (seventh, 20:48.81), freshman Delaney Kemp (ninth, 21:04.81) and senior Ellie Wilson (20th, 21:56.62) rounded out the Lady Jaguars’ point scorers.

Maranatha was led by senior Sara Elliot, who finished 19th with a time of 21:53.68. Senior Brooklyn Kroening (45th, 22:49.02), senior Courtlyn Eisele (22:52.65), sophomore Savannah Shiner (52nd, 23:05.90) and junior Talia Morrow (68th, 23:46.50) rounded out the Lady Eagles’ point scorers.

De Soto was led by individual champion Gabby Collins, a sophomore, who won the event with a time of 19:54.72. Senior Jaycie Thaemert (33rd, 22:33.91), freshman Alyssa Perry (58th, 23:18.00), junior Bri Jenson (70th, 23:48.06) and sophomore Mariah Grizzle (73rd, 23:51.43) rounded out the Lady Wildcats’ point scorers.

SM North was led by a trio of runners: senior Giselle Almodovar (41st, 22:42.90), freshman Abby Onnen (42nd, 22:43.80) and sophomore Cassie Davis (43rd, 22:46.21). Freshman Caroline Colbum (81st, 24:23.81) and junior Jazmin Burch (85th, 24:36.02) rounded out the Lady Indians’ point scorers.

The Mill Valley boys also captured a team victory, finishing with a total score of 72. Blue Valley (80), Olathe South (101), De Soto (125) and St. Thomas Aquinas (150) rounded out the top five. Maranatha (192) finished seventh and SM North (304) took 12th.

The Jaguars were led by senior Derek Meeks, who took sixth place with a time of 16:47.72. Sophomore Justin Grega (14th, 16:56.37), senior Garret Fields (16:59.14), sophomore Gavin Overbeck (18th, 17:07.52) and sophomore Tyler Coad (19th, 17:13.71) rounded out the Mill Valley point scorers.

De Soto was led by senior Travis Hodge, who finished fifth with a time of 16:43.58. Senior Luis Murillo (11th, 16:53.40), junior Taylor Ramseyer (23rd, 17:18.30), sophomore Ke’mana Ka’anapu (31st, 17:27.28) and senior Jackson McQuality (58th, 18:11.43) rounded out the Wildcats’ point scorers.

Maranatha was led by senior C.J. Shiner, who took 13th with a time of 16:55.46. Junior Austin Boatwright (32nd, 17:28.36), senior Ben Bailey (42nd, 17:52.46), junior Alstan Walker (54th, 18:08.15) and senior Xavier Henderson (57th, 18:10.18) rounded out the Eagles’ point scorers.

SM North was led by freshman Asher Molina, who finished 39th with a time of 17:46.62. Freshman Logan Jiskra (62nd, 18:16.65), sophomore Ben Tyrrell (64th, 18:18.92), junior Fritz Kiteck (74th, 18:26.93) and senior Nick Wilson (79th, 18:40.34) rounded out the Indians’ point scorers.
