Football Roundup: Mill Valley fends off Derby

The Mill Valley football team remained unbeaten on Friday evening, defeating Derby 27-20 on its home field in a clash of highly-ranked teams.

The Jaguars, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 5A, improved to 3-0 with the triumph. Derby, the No. 3 team in Class 6A, dropped to 2-1 with the loss.

Mill Valley was led by running back Tristan Milne, who rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. He also caught the game-winning touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Logan Koch finished 14-for-28 for 166 yards and one touchdown, and Christian Jegen caught eight passes for 120 yards.

The Jaguars will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday as they play host to Kansas City Southwest.

St. James tops De Soto

St. James Academy remained unbeaten on Friday evening as it defeated De Soto 26-10 at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

The Thunder (3-0) piled up 421 total yards, including 244 on the ground. De Soto (2-1), meanwhile, managed just 99 total yards against the St. James defense.

The Thunder was led by running back Dylan Streeter, who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. Wide receiver Mason Dunsmore caught five passes for 98 yards, and Andrew Bierbaum caught three for 69 yards. Quarterback Trey Keith finished 9-for-17 for 177 yards.

St. James will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Saturday as it travels to take on Helias Catholic.

SM Northwest falls to SM East

The Shawnee Mission Northwest football team lost to No. 1 state-ranked Shawnee Mission East 44-20 on Friday evening in a Sunflower League showdown at the SM South District Stadium.

The Cougars dropped to 1-2 this season with the loss. SM East, meanwhile, improved to 3-0. SM Northwest will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Thursday as it travels to take on Lawrence.

SM North toppled by SM West

The Shawnee Mission North football team lost to Shawnee Mission West 48-7 at the SM North District Stadium on Friday evening in a matchup between Sunflower League foes.

The Indians dropped to 1-2 this season with the loss. The Vikings, meanwhile, improved to 3-0 with the victory. SM North will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday as it plays host to Olathe East.
