SM North boys swim and dive takes second at home triangular
Overland Park The Shawnee Mission North boys swim and dive team placed second at its home triangular Monday with 174 points to take second to SM East (308) and finish ahead of Olathe South (148).
The Indians started out their first home meet with a second-place finish from the 200-yard medley team of Clayton McMillin, Harrison Boldt, Kaden Venard, Carter Jacobson. The North relay narrowly missed a state consideration mark with a time of 1:52.10.
Boldt added an individual second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.49. Senior Bob Collins was right behind Boldt in third with a mark of 1:11.65.
While Boldt and Collins are two of the top returners for the Indians, they also had some strong performances from their first-year swimmers. Freshman Trey Smith finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.24), and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.06).
Sophomore Daniel Garren added two top-five finishes by placing fifth in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle with respective times of 2:22.25 and 6:38.01.
The Indians placed two teams in the top five of the 200-yard freestyle relays. James Cameron, Boldt, Venard and Jacobson took third (1:38.37), and Collins, Smith, Luke Guthrie and Nick Aragon came in fourth (1:45.69).
North will return to action at 5 p.m. Friday for the Olathe Invitational at California Trail Middle School.
