SMN boys win, girls fall to Free State

February 10, 2016

— Michael Weathers scored 19 points, and his brother Marcus Weathers added 18 as Shawnee Mission North knocked off No. 5 ranked Free State, 67-59, Tuesday.

The tandem sparked the Indians to an early 16-6 advantage as SM North only missed one of its first 10 field goals, and the Firebirds were never able to recover.

Closing out games this season against the Firebirds has been a tall task for most teams, and Hunter Gudde showed why – albeit in the losing effort. Gudde scored 22 of his game-high 26 points in the second half, but the Firebirds still were not able to keep pace with the Indians.

North improved to 11-4 overall and 6-0 in the Sunflower League, while Free State fell to 11-3 and 5-1.
