MVHS, SJA to send a combined 20 wrestlers to 5A state meet
Mill Valley wrestling will send 12 of its 14 wrestlers to the state meet next weekend in Park City.
Dylan Gowin, 113 pounds, Conner Ward, 126, Jarrett Bendure, 132, and Ryan Anderson, 145, took home first place on Saturday at Blue Valley Southwest.
Bryson Markovich, 120 pound, Jett Bendure, 138, Hayden Keopke, 160, and Seth Burnett, 182, reached the championship bout before taking second place.
Austin Crocker, 152 pounds, Ethan Keopke, 170, Peyton Bendure, 195, and Alec Derritt, 285, came from the consolation side of the bracket to take third or fourth and qualify for next week.
The Jaguars won the regional with 183 points topping host Blue Valley Southwest’s 161.5 points, Pittsburg’s 132.5 and St. James’ 128.5.
Mill Valley will look to improve upon its program-best third-place finish at last season’s 5A state meet.
Thunder send eight to state
St. James, who took first at state in 2014 and second in 2015, will be taking eight to Park City next weekend.
Stephen Tujague, 138 pounds, Tyler Hensley, 152, Sammy Cokeley, 160, and Clay Lautt, 170, all won their weight class.
The four remaining wrestlers — Drew Ernsdorff, 120 pounds, Cody Schmidt, 132, Max Lutz, 145, and Chris Spencer, 220 — qualified through the backside of the bracket.
