St. James boys, Mill Valley teams earn victories
The St. James Academy boys basketball team fought tooth and nail for a 77-71 overtime victory over Liberty on Saturday at Johnson County Community College as part of the Best of the Midwest Showcase.
Zach Thornhill led the way for the Thunder, pouring in a game-high 31 points. Teammate Keenan Fitzmorris was also a key contributor, finishing with 18.
St. James will be back in action on Friday as it participates in the Saints Classic Tournament at St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Lady Thunder also played in the showcase Saturday and lost to Olathe East, 42-38.
Mill Valley boys win
The Mill Valley boys basketball team captured a second consecutive victory in Kaw Valley League play on Friday evening, defeating Tonganoxie on the road, 63-40.
Kasey Conklin led the way for the Jaguars with 22 points, and Clayton Holmberg and Tyler Grauer each finished with eight.
Mill Valley jumped out to a 25-11 lead by the end of the first quarter and limited Tonganoxie to just four more points in the second. Conklin had the hot hand from beyond the arc, knocking down six 3-pointers.
The Jaguars will be back in action on Friday as they participate in the Saints Classic Tournament at St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Mill Valley girls also rolled to an easy victory over Tonganoxie on Friday, winning 62-33.
