Shawnee teacher receives Sierra Club grant
The Sierra Club’s Kansas Chapter has announced its 2016-17 education grants to Kansas teachers, including one from a Shawnee school.
The grants support the efforts of teachers who are educating students about the environmental crisis and exploring solutions to the immense challenges it poses. Amy Lewis, third grade teacher at Horizon Elementary, 7210 Chouteau, received a $1,000 grant that will help students learn about climate change by studying the interdependent relationships in ecosystems. Monarch butterflies are a particular focus of the grant project.
