Shawnee council awards contracts for major street repairs
Summer construction set for northern Quivira, Johnson Drive from Quivira to Pflumm
The Shawnee City Council Monday awarded contracts for two major street projects set to be completed this year.
The council awarded the bid for the Quivira Road rehabilitation, 47th Street to 62nd Place, to McAnany Construction of Shawnee in the amount of $1.5 million. McAnany’s bid was the lowest of eight submitted.
The project included mill and overlay of pavement, curbs and sidewalk replacement and installation as needed, and storm drainage repairs and installation. Complete closure between 48th Terrace and 47th Street will be required to install storm sewer and widen the street, with single lane closures through the rest of the project. Construction is scheduled to begin within a few weeks and be complete by Sept. 1.
The council awarded the bid for Johnson Drive rehabilitation, Quivira to Pflumm roads, to Superior Bowen Asphalt, Kansas City, Mo., for $648,719. Superior’s bid was the lowest of five submitted.
The project will require single lane closures, with construction to begin in the next few weeks and be complete by Aug. 1. It will include mill and overlay of pavement, storm drainage repair and curbs and sidewalk replacement as needed.
Half of construction costs for both projects is funded through the County Assistance Roads System program.
