Shawnee church holds craft, quilt fair
Stock up on handmade craft items, view unique quilts and enjoy lunch at the Monticello United Methodist Women’s “Souper” Fall Festival and Quilt Show this weekend.
The festivities will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Monticello United Methodist Church, 23860 W. 75th St.
Proceeds will benefit the United Methodist Women (UMW) mission work.
To prepare for the festival, UMW members have been making craft items all year.
Items include concrete pumpkins, decorative crates, scarves, angel paintings, Christmas ornaments, decorator pumpkins, cards, silverware necklaces, needlework and other much sought after items.
Baked goods, such as pies and cookies, have always been a popular sales item and will be joined by a variety of satisfying frozen casseroles and soups.
A quilt show will be held at the same time, featuring new and antique quilts, such as crazy, silk tie, hand embroidered and appliqued.
Shawnee residents Tacie Walser, Sandy Evans and Linda Shaffer are hosting the show.
Evans and Walser are experienced seamstresses.
Walser is a master quilter dating back to 1966.
Many of the quilts that will be displayed are from her collection, dating back to the 1800s.
At the quilt show, attendees will also be given the opportunity to bid in a silent auction for a high–quality Moda-fabric quilt.
Taco soup, chicken noodle soup, cowboy bread, chocolate and vanilla sheet cake and drinks are on the menu and will be available for a suggested donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Monticello United Methodist Church is located three blocks west of K-7 highway in western Shawnee.
Parking is available to the south and the west of the church.
For those interested in quilting, the church has a group called, “Doing for Others,” in which people meet up every Wednesday morning, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, to quilt and donate the lap quilts to shut ins.
