Shawnee Hy-Vee to honor vets, active-duty military
In an act of patriotism, the Shawnee Hy-Vee will be hosting its annual Veterans Day Breakfast for all veterans and active-duty military from 6-11 a.m. Friday at the store, 13550 W. 63rd St.
“Our Veterans Day celebration is one of the highlights of our year,” said Chad Romer, the Shawnee Hy-Vee store director. “It is a privilege and great honor to be able to serve those who have given so much in the service to our country.
“We are so excited about the events and the groups that will be joining us for this year’s event.”
He added that Hy-Vee staff expects to serve around 1,200 veterans and their guests this year.
The served buffet is complimentary for veterans and is open to others at a small cost.
So far, the confirmed entertainment will be provided by the Maranatha Christian Academy fifth-grade choir, directed by Megan Hughes and the Maranatha Christian Academy High School Marching Eagle Band, directed by Steve Gordon.
One of the highlights of the morning will include the Shawnee Police Department’s presentation of the colors.
The Shawnee Fire Department will also be on hand with a truck for the kids.
All Shawnee residents are invited to bring their camera and enjoy the fun, food and fellowship in the casual dining area of the Shawnee Hy-Vee.
