Holiday run in Bonner Springs kicks off this weekend
Put some pep in your step this holiday season at the upcoming Santa Express 5K and One Mile Reindeer Route.
The second annual event, being held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, is a holiday themed race that starts at the barn on the National Agricultural Center’s historic grounds.
The race goes around a loop and back to the barn for a celebratory finish that includes a train ride, cookies, hot chocolate (or water) and visits with Santa in the depot.
Participants are also welcome to enjoy taking snapshots at the selfie stations and participate in reindeer games.
The Santa’s Express 5K and Reindeer Route supports the historic village at the National Agricultural Center.
The village, representing rural 19th century American life, features a one-room school, blacksmith shop, and train depot.
This year, proceeds from the event will ensure a new coat of paint for the one-room school.
For interested participants, the packet pickup is the day of the race at the National Agricultural Center, located at 630 N. 126th Street, Bonner Springs.
Awards will be announced the day of the race. Competitions will range from most creative holiday outfit to Santa’s twin to the Best Mrs. Claus.
Of course, there will be an ornament finish medal as well.
Gift certificates will be handed to first, second, and third place winners.
The entry fee for the 5K is $30, or for a 5K team of four or more, it will be $25.
The fee for the one-mile reindeer route is $20, or $15 for a team of four or more.
Reindeer Route participants will receive antlers instead of a race shirt.
The fee for each invent increases $5 on the day of the race, so early registration is encouraged.
