Soccer roundup: Inclement weather impacts area matches
Shawnee Mission Northwest's boys soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season by shutting out Free State, 3-0, Tuesday at Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex.
Seth Bowman, Jack Lammers and Josh Sherfy all scored in the first half to give the Cougars their 3-0 advantage. The match was called at halftime due to lightning. It was an official match since one half was completed.
Josh Ruvalcava assisted on two of the three SM Northwest goals, and Henry Fears set up the third one.
The Cougars (4-1) will take on Lawrence High at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex.
Mill Valley ends match with Aquinas in 1-1 tie
Inclement weather also ended Mill Valley's match with St. Thomas Aquinas after one half on Tuesday. The Jaguars and Saints played to a 1-1 tie.
Jake Ashford found the back of the net for Mill Valley, as the Jaguars earned their first tie of the season.
The Jaguars (3-2-1) will be back in action when they host at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22 against Blue Valley West.
SM North's match suspended with Leavenworth
Shawnee Mission North was three minutes and 42 seconds away from earning a victory over Leavenworth before the match was suspended by Mother Nature.
The Indians led the Pioneers, 2-0, before the rains came. The match will resume at a to-be determined date.
