Happy homecomings: Mill Valley, SM North football earn Week 3 wins
The Mill Valley and Shawnee Mission North football teams both celebrated their homecoming weekends in style with victories Friday night.
Mill Valley junior quarterback Brody Flaming continued to build with connection with senior wide receiver Ben Hartman as the Jaguars rolled to a 40-24 victory over Blue Valley Southwest.
Flaming was 23 of 42 for 436 yards and four touchdowns, and Hartman was at the center of the Jaguars' aerial attack. Hartman caught 10 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown.
Flaming also threw touchdown passes to Evan Rice, Brady Garrison and Logan Talley.
Joel Donn set the tone again defensively for the Jaguars with 18 tackles — 12 of them of the solo variety. Dylan Smith joined Donn with double-digit tackles with 13.
The Jaguars (3-0) will try to stay perfect when they take on Blue Valley at 7 p.m. Friday at Mill Valley.
SM North blows out Lansing
The Indians put up a season-high in points in a 58-28 win over Lansing. Senior quarterback Will Schneider completed 17 of 31 for 249 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 100 yards on 12 carries.
Schneider's touchdown passes went to Noah Laird, Zachary Pittman, Billy Conaway and Nate McCoy, and he had completions to nine different receivers.
Junior Reese Sila helped Schneider lead the SM North on the ground with 76 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries.
The SM North defense joined in on the scoring as well, as senior Avante Williams hauled in two interceptions — one of which was returned for a touchdown.
The Indians (2-1) will resume Sunflower League play against Olathe Northwest at 7 p.m. Thursday at SM North.
