Storm, Pickert pace St. James football in 29-20 win over BVNW
Roeland Park Zac Storm had three interceptions, and Travis Pickert tallied four sacks as the St. James football team defeated Blue Valley Northwest, 29-20, in the Thunder's homecoming game Friday at Bishop Miege.
The Thunder stormed out of the gates by grabbing a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but found themselves trailing 20-14 going into the fourth. St. James shut out BV Northwest 15-0 in the final 12 minutes to improve to 2-2 on the season.
Freshman Michael Kumke stepped up to lead the Thunder offensively with 118 total yards and two touchdowns — one on the ground and another through the air. Kumke rushed for 79 yards on 15 carries, and had a team-high five receptions for 39 yards.
St. James senior quarterback Sammy Wheeler was 14-40 for 127 yards, and added two touchdowns and five interceptions. Wheeler also ran for 39 yards on 11 carries.
The Thunder will take on Blue Valley at 7 p.m. Friday at Blue Valley.
