Volleyball roundup: Mill Valley takes down Gardner-Edgerton in straight sets
Mill Valley's volleyball team swept Gardner-Edgerton in two sets (25-23, 25-16) to pick up its first Eastern Kansas League victory.
The Jaguars also defeated EKL foe Blue Valley last week, but it was a non-league match. Mill Valley will play next against Emporia and Ottawa Thursday in the Ottawa triangular.
St. James drops EKL tilt with BVNW
St. James Academy (No. 6 in Class 5A) fell to Blue Valley Northwest (No. 7 in 6A) in straight sets (25-15, 25-18) in an EKL match Tuesday.
The Thunder will have the weekend off, and take the court again at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a home match against Bonner Springs.
SMNW loses to Olathe North, SM West
Following a second-place finish Saturday at the Tonganoxie tournament, Shawnee Mission Northwest was unable to continue its winning ways in its return to Sunflower League action Tuesday at the SM West triangular.
After losing the first set against Olathe North, the Cougars bounced to take the second by the score of 25-22. However, the Eagles prevailed by winning the third set, 25-21. The Cougars then lost to SM West (25-17, 25-14).
Northwest will play next in the Joan Wells tournament Saturday at Lawrence High.
SM North falls to Lawrence High, Leavenworth
Shawnee Mission North also dropped to Sunflower League home matches — losing in two sets to Lawrence High (25-11, 25-18) and Leavenworth (25-19, 25-19).
The Indians will hit the road to face SM West at 5 p.m. Thursday.
