The bats were hot for the Shawnee Mission North softball team in its sweep of SM East on Tuesday. The Indians won Game One, 7-3, before routing the Lancers, 16-5, in Game Two. St. James split its doubleheader against Blue Valley Northwest — winning Game One, 5-4, before falling in Game Two, 8-1. De Soto was swept by Paola, 17-5 and 20-9, despite a three-run home run from Mackenzie Smith in Game One.

Shawnee Mission Northwest and Mill Valley’s girls soccer teams both earned 1-0 wins on Tuesday heading into Friday’s matchup against each other. Caroline Sanders scored in overtime to lift the Cougars over Olathe Northwest, and Haley Freeman found the back of the net for Mill Valley against Bishop Miege. Caylee Thornhill scored for St. James in the Thunder’s 2-1 loss to BV Northwest. Kayla Crowder netted her 16th goal of the season in Maranatha’s 8-1 loss to Summit Christian. Shawnee Mission North fell to Olathe East, 2-0.

The Mill Valley baseball team’s high octane offense was on display again in the Jaguars’ 9-4 win over Bishop Miege on Tuesday. St. James Academy senior Tanner Bramlage returned to the mound for the first time since throwing a no-hitter on April 11 against Blue Valley Southwest, and turned in another dominant performance in the Thunder’s 2-1 win over BV Northwest.

The times were not as fast as the Mill Valley swim team had hoped for on Tuesday at the Lawrence Invitational, but they were good enough for the Jaguars to earn a second-place finish out of six teams. The best events for the Jaguars were the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays — both of which they took second place.
