SMNW bowling rolls to first-place finishes in season opener

With returning almost all of the varsity members from last year, the Shawnee Mission Northwest boys and girls bowling teams were eager to open the season on Wednesday at Olathe Lanes East Bowling Center. While a number of the Cougars fell just short of their individual goals, they did well enough collectively to coast to first-place finishes on the boys and girls sides. Junior Alaina Burris won the girls tournament and led all bowlers with a three-game series of 608, and senior Colton Kinsella paced the SM Northwest boys with a score of 592.

Shawnee Mission Northwest junior CC Ghilardi hit a 60-foot buzzer beater to end the first quarter, and the Cougars never looked back in their 63-53 win over Olathe North on Tuesday.

Short-handed Indians fall Olathe Northwest, 64-47

Olathe Northwest’s hot-shooting from the perimeter and play in the post from Luke Waters proved to be too much to handle for the Shawnee Mission North boys basketball team, as the Indians fell to the Ravens, 64-47, on Tuesday. The Ravens knocked down eight of their 16 3-point attempts, and Waters netted a game-high 26 points to hand the Indians’ their first home loss of the season. Danny Bradley Jr. scored all 12 of his points in the third quarter to lead the Indians, who were without leading scorer Avante Williams.
Love leads SM North girls hoops in loss to ONW

Shawnee Mission North freshman LeLe Love scored 22 points, but the Indians were unable to overcome a 15-point halftime deficit in their 49-32 loss to Olathe Northwest on Tuesday.
