De Soto shut out Washington, 18-0; Mill Valley rolled past Leavenworth, 9-1, and Shawnee Mission Northwest upended Lawrence High, 3-1, in their respective regional semifinal matches on Tuesday. St. James’ season ended with a 3-1 loss to Blue Valley Southwest on Tuesday, while SM North’s 2017 campaign closed with a 10-0 defeat at the hands of BV North.
Mill Valley softball punches ticket to state with wins over St. James, Aquinas

After winning seven of its final eight games to end the regular season, the Mill Valley softball team kept on rolling in the Class 5A regional tournament with wins over St. James Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday to clinch a trip to state. Jess Garcia and Peyton Moeder homered in the Jaguars’ 8-5 win over the Thunder. Mill Valley pounced on the Saints with a three-run first inning en route to a 5-3 victory.

The De Soto baseball team outlasted St. James Academy, 6-5, in eight innings, in the Class 5A regional semifinals, but fell to defending state champion St. Thomas Aquinas, 12-5, in the title game on Tuesday. Maranatha Christian Academy surged out to an early lead before holding off Highland-Doniphan West for a 9-7 win in the 2-1A regional quarterfinals. Shawnee Mission North traded punches back and forth with SM West, but the Vikings delivered a knockout blow with a six-run sixth inning to triumph over the Indians, 16-11, in the 6A regional semifinals.
Mill Valley golf qualifies for state tournament

Mill Valley’s Jack Matchette and Tanner Moore both placed in the top 10 of Tuesday’s 5A regional golf tournament at Tomahawk Hills Golf Course to help the Jaguars take third — which secured a berth to the state tournament.
