Maranatha’s Brownlee garners three golds in final state meet

Maranatha Christian Academy senior Brooke Brownlee had already hauled in her fair share of hardware before her final state track and field meet last weekend at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium, but she added three more gold medals to her résumé on Saturday to round out her career. Brownlee became a three-time state champion in the 100-and 200-meter dashes, but the most meaningful first-place finish for the Maranatha senior came in the 4x100-meter relay — which included Grace Wojcik, Phoebe Hines and Aaliyah Buckner. Senior Micah Webb placed third in the 100-meter dash to lead the Maranatha boys team.
Rodriguez, De Soto throwers lead Wildcats at state track and field meet

De Soto junior Ethan Rodriguez wasn’t feeling his best last weekend because of allergies at the state meet, but that did not stop him from collecting two individual medals and helping the Wildcats’ 4x100-meter relay — which included Trevor Watts, Brogan Williams and Exavier Jackson — break their own school record in prelims. Throwers Zach Titus (fourth place, shot put), Kelsey Heer (seventh, discus) and Emily Fuhr (eighth, discus) led the Wildcats in the field events.
4x800 relays lead SM North track and field at state meet

The Shawnee Mission North track and field teams received top-three finishes from their 4x800-meter relays at the state meet on Saturday at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium. Amber Reed, Molly Ryan, Katie Kasunic and Cassie Raines finished as state runners-up, while Asher Molina, Joseph Coddington, Luke Kasunic and Carter Jacobson placed third in the boys race.
SMNW boys track and field ties for fifth at state meet

Shawnee Mission Northwest’s Hayden Goodpaster (400 meters), Travis Morrison (shot put) and Abigail Kelly-Salo (pole vault) all finished as state runner-ups in their respective events last weekend at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium. The SM Northwest boys tied for fifth in the team standings, and the girls finished 21st.
Mill Valley girls track and field finishes fourth at state meet

Mill Valley senior Morgan Thomas medaled in three different events — including a first-place finish in the high jump — and the Jaguars’ 4x800-meter relay team of Bella Hadden, Britton Nelson, Delaney Kemp and Morgan Koca broke a school record en route to a second straight state title in the event. The Jaguars placed fourth in the 5A girls team standings. Trey Callahan placed seventh in the shot put to highlight the state meet for the Mill Valley boys team.
Stepping up for Schaefer: St. James finishes as 5A girls state track and field runner-up

After St. James Academy senior Hannah Schaefer broke her clavicle while going over a hurdle last week in practice, her teammates rose to the occasion at the state track and field meet Friday and Saturday at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium. The Thunder finished as the Class 5A state runner-up behind gold medalists Emma Gossman (200), Sarah Murrow (3,200) and the first-place 4x400-meter relay team of Gossman, Ashley Wurtenberger, Celeste Buchanan and Katie Moore. St. James has finished in the top two of the 5A team standings for five straight years. Will Crabtree led the St. James boys with a fourth-place finish in the 800.
Symposium takes on issues regarding dementia care
