Zade, Hubert lead De Soto to Bishop Miege Cross Country Invitational titles

De Soto freshman Jordan Zade and junior Sam Hubert distanced themselves from the rest of the field at the Bishop Miege Cross Country Invitational on Thursday to lead the Wildcats to first-place finishes in the girls and boys varsity races. Savannah Shiner finished 10th in the varsity girls race to lead Maranatha Christian Academy. The St. James varsity and junior varsity teams did not run since they’re competing today in Omaha, but the Thunder still finished third in the varsity girls team standings.
Shawnee horsewoman wins world title

Pam Taylor, of Shawnee, captured the world championship title with her horse in the aged mares category at the 2017 American Quarter Horse Association Select World Championship Show on Aug. 31 in Amarillo.

The De Soto volleyball team picked up wins over two ranked opponents with sweeps of Gardner-Edgerton and Newton on Thursday at its home triangular. Maranatha Christian Academy made quick work of Harmon with a victory in straight sets. Shawnee Mission Northwest went 1-1 at the Leavenworth triangular after defeating the host Pioneers and losing to Olathe Northwest.

Ethan Rodriguez recorded a hat trick to lead De Soto to a 10-0 win over Eudora on Thursday. St. James lost to Olathe East, 3-1, Maranatha fell to Washington, 5-2, and Shawnee Mission North suffered a 4-1 loss to Olathe North.
SM North football falls to Lawrence High, 69-31

Shawnee Mission North quarterback Dustin McKessor completed 18 of 36 passes for 209 yards with four touchdowns and an interception, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Lawrence High in a 69-31 loss on Thursday.
Investigation continues after explosion and fire at KC Ice Center

Firefighters from Shawnee and Lenexa were called at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, after an employee working at the facility heard an explosion.
