The De Soto volleyball team got better as the match went on in its three-set sweep of Baldwin for their fourth straight victory. Shawnee Mission Northwest lost both of its matches against Lawrence High and SM West. Shawnee Mission North fell to Olathe Northwest and Gardner-Edgerton. Maranatha saw its five-match winning streak end at the hands of Summit Christian.
St. James upends Blue Valley, Mill Valley to go 2-0 at MV triangular

It wasn’t the start that the St. James Academy volleyball team was hoping for at Tuesday’s triangular against Mill Valley, but the Thunder weathered the storm to defeat Blue Valley in three sets and swept the host Jaguars. In St. James’ match against Blue Valley, the Thunder (21-4, ranked No. 1 in Class 5A) were tamed by the Tigers in the first set before rallying for a 15-25, 25-20, 25-13 victory. The Thunder then upended the Jaguars, 25-16, 25-20. The Jaguars (5-11) opened the triangular with a 25-19, 25-23 loss to Blue Valley.

The De Soto soccer team has recorded victories over Kansas City Christian (2-1 on Monday) and Ottawa (6-0 on Tuesday) to start off the week, and has won four straight matches. Maranatha shut out Northland Christian, 5-0, behind two goals from Aaron Bowlin. St. James snapped a five-match losing streak with a 2-0 win over Blue Valley North. Brent Stevenson and Caleb Brown found the back of the net to lead Mill Valley to a 2-1 win over Blue Valley Northwest. Shawnee Mission Northwest suffered a 2-1 overtime loss against Free State. Shawnee Mission North fell to SM South, 5-1.
