De Soto boys swim and dive 4th at Bonner Springs Invitational
The De Soto boys swim and dive team placed fourth at the Bonner Springs Invitational on Wednesday.
Andre VanMeerhaeghe led the Wildcats with a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle after clocking in with a time of 6:24.15. Cale Marquis followed VanMeerhaeghe in seventh.
The 500-yard freestyle was one of five events that the Wildcats had two top-10 finishers in. Eli Gratz and Jose Banuelos had two top-10 finishes apiece in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Gratz finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with respective times of 1:06.92 and 26.41. Banuelos took sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:10.46 and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle after touching the final wall in 26.90.
VanMeerhaeghe collected another top-five finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.02. Andrew Blazo followed in seventh with a time of 1:23.63. Blazo also had a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle after clocking in at 2:23.65.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Nick Rogers and Aydan VanMeerhaeghe placed eighth and 10th, respectively, with times of 1:10.42 and 1:15.53.
The Wildcats finished fifth in the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays, and sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Rogers, Andre VanMeerhaeghe, Gratz and Marquis teamed up for the Wildcats' 200-yard medley relay. Gratz also was on the 200-yard freestyle relay, and was joined by Banuelos, Blazo and Aydan VanMeerhaeghe. The 400-yard freestyle relay was composed of Banuelos, Rogers, Aydan VanMeerhaeghe and Curt Baker.
De Soto finished with a team score of 246 points. Topeka Seaman won the meet with 547 points.
