SMNW girls basketball pushes winning streak to four with 57-28 victory over Olathe North

When the Shawnee Mission Northwest girls basketball team is firing on all cylinders, its 1-3-1 zone defense is often what sparks the Cougars. Olathe North was the most recent team that had a hard time cracking the code to SM Northwest’s zone, as the Cougars coasted past the Eagles, 57-28, on Tuesday. The win over the Eagles pushed the Cougars’ winning streak to four, and they have held their opponents to 32 points or less in each contest.

Shawnee Mission Northwest boys basketball coach Mike Rose has rolled out his fair share of lineups this year, but he finally felt like he had one set over the past couple of weeks. The Cougars were winners of three straight heading into Tuesday’s home tilt against Olathe North, but an ankle injury to senior George Specht and Dale Talley being sick once again caused Rose to rely heavily on his bench. For most of the game, Rose couldn’t have been much happier with how the Cougars responded, but they weren’t able to fend off the Eagles in the fourth quarter in a 64-49 setback.

Bolin, Burris lead SMNW bowling to senior night sweep; SMN boys, girls 2nd

Shawnee Mission Northwest bowlers Garrett Bolin and Alaina Burris won their senior night quad at Park Lanes to lead the Cougars’ to a sweep against SM North, SM West and Washington. Hadley Sayers was the runner-up for the SM Northwest girls and Austin Andersen took third on the boys side. North finished as the runner-up in the girls and boys team standings. Brianna Hubenett took third for the SM North girls. Michael Rivera and Cal Brooks finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to lead the SM North boys.
