Boys basketball roundup: MCA’s Hou records triple-double in win over Butler; SMNW edges Leavenworth
Maranatha Christian Academy senior Roland Hou guided the Eagles to their 10th straight win with a triple-double in an 82-47 victory over Butler on Friday.
Hou paced the Eagles (13-2, No. 6 in Class 2A) with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists to highlight the balanced performance against the Bears (3-19). Jonathan Jackson had a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
The Eagles had five players score in double figures. Jax Holland and Brock West netted 15 and 13 points, respectively, and Jason Friesen added 10.
Maranatha will play host to Heritage Christian (3-12) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Shawnee Mission Northwest 56, Leavenworth 55
Shawnee Mission Northwest moved back to the .500 mark with a 56-55 win over Leavenworth.
The Cougars were able to bounce back from a 64-49 loss to Olathe North and have now won four of their last five. The loss for Leavenworth dropped the Pioneers' record to 4-12.
Northwest (8-8) will remain on the road to take on Lawrence High (8-8) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Gardner Edgerton 62, SM North 49
Shawnee Mission North was unable keep pace the Gardner Edgerton in a 62-49 loss to the Trailblazers.
The Trailblazers (7-9) jumped out to a 29-20 halftime lead and were able to keep the Indians (8-8) at arm's length after the break.
North will try to bounce back at 7 p.m. Tuesday at SM South (8-8).
Paola 55, De Soto 41
De Soto had its three-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Paola after falling to the Panthers, 55-41.
The Wildcats (9-8) split the season series with the Panthers (8-8). De Soto upended Paola, 55-49, on Jan. 2.
The Wildcats will have another chance at a season sweep when they travel to Eudora (13-4, No. 4 in 4A-I) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. De Soto defeated Eudora, 57-50, on Jan. 5.
Miege 65, St. James 44
St. James suffered a 65-44 loss against Bishop Miege.
The Stags (14-2, No. 1 in 4A-I) took a 26-16 lead into the locker room and didn't let up in the second half.
Miege swept the season series of St. James (4-12) after also defeating the Thunder, 56-44, on Jan. 9.
The Thunder will play next at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Blue Valley North (12-5, No. 5 in 6A).
