De Soto boys swim and dive 3rd at Inter League Championships
The De Soto boys swim and dive team placed third out of six teams at the Inter League Championships on Wednesday at Osawatomie.
Andre VanMeerhaeghe led the Wildcats with a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.51. VanMeerhaeghe was also the runner-up in the 200-yard IM after clocking in at 2:27.01.
VanMeerhaeghe's runner-up performance in the 200-yard IM was one of four second-place finishes for the Wildcats. Andrew Blazo had two of them after taking second in the 200-and 500-yard freestyles. Blazo finished with a time of 2:21.47 in the 200-yard freestyle and 6:35.51 in the 500-yard freestyle. Cale Marquis followed Blazo in third in the 200-yard freestyle after clocking in at 2:22.65.
The Wildcats also had two top-five finishers in the 100-yard butterfly between Eli Gratz (second place, time of 1:07.28) and Jose Banuelos (fourth, 1:08.42).
All three De Soto relays recorded third-place finishes. Cole Peterson, VanMeerhaeghe, Gratz and Banuelos started things off with a time of 2:03.96. VanMeerhaeghe, Gratz, Marquis and Banuelos teamed up for a time of 1:46.47 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Blazo, Marquis, Peterson and Banuelos finished off the meet with a time of 4:22.24 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Peterson also added a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke after clocking in at 1:17.24.
