The St. James Academy and Shawnee Mission Northwest girls basketball teams both rounded the week with victories to highlight girls hoops action in the Shawnee area. St. James edged St. Teresa’s, 46-43, on Thursday to snap a five-game losing streak. The Cougars won for the seventh time in their last eight games after defeating SM West, 40-34, on Friday. Shawnee Mission North surged out to a nine-point halftime before coming up short against Free State, 64-59, in overtime on Friday. Maranatha kept Barstow off of the scoreboard for the first three minutes and 45 seconds, but went on to fall to the Knights, 42-27, on Friday. A full recap of the Maranatha/Barstow matchup will be posted later on Mill Valley was unable to keep pace with Blue Valley North in a 62-44 loss to the Mustangs on Friday.

Maranatha and Mill Valley’s boys basketball teams both earned victories on Friday night to round out the second-to-last week of the regular season. Maranatha led wire to wire in its 57-42 win over Barstow to push its winning streak to 12 games. A full recap will be posted later on Mill Valley notched its first win of the season over a state-ranked opponent when the Jaguars took down Class 6A’s No. 4 Blue Valley North, 74-68. Shawnee Mission Northwest suffered a 54-46 loss at the hands of SM West, and SM North fell to Free State, 74-52.
