De Soto's boys basketball team won the Frontier League title outright with a 61-52 victory over Baldwin on Friday.
Levi Hansen paced the Wildcats with 20 points. Jared Baruth and Grant Noll added 17 and 11 points, respectively.
The Wildcats trailed, 28-24, before Baruth hit a 3-pointer to close out the first half. De Soto then hit Baldwin with an 11-0 run to begin the third quarter, and led the rest of the way. De Soto swept the season series from Baldwin. The Wildcats also upended the Bulldogs, 71-61, on Jan. 30. A full recap of Friday's matchup will be posted later on shawneedispatch.com.
De Soto (12-8) has won six of its last seven entering 5A sub-state play. The Wildcats will play host to Leavenworth (5-15) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will play Blue Valley Southwest (5-15) or Topeka Seaman (13-7) at 7 p.m. Friday.
Maranatha 78, Waverly 43
Maranatha closed the regular season on a 15-game winning streak after coasting past Waverly, 78-43.
Jonathan Jackson led the Eagles with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jason Friesen and Jax Holland joined Jackson in double figures with 20 and 16 points, respectively.
Jackson also earned all-Crossroads Conference first-team honors. Holland was a second-team selection, while Roland Hou was tabbed as an honorable mention.
The Eagles (18-2, No. 5 in Class 2A) will welcome Oswego (3-16) to MCA at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 2A sub-state quarterfinals. The winner will play Yates Center (16-3) or Pleasanton (6-13) on Friday at St. Mary's Colgan.
Shawnee Mission Northwest 56, Gardner Edgerton 40
Shawnee Mission Northwest snapped a three-game losing streak with a 56-40 win over Gardner Edgerton.
The Cougars (9-11) will get the chance to avenge their first setback of that losing streak when they travel to Lawrence High (11-9) at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the 6A sub-state semifinals. The Lions defeated the Cougars, 77-51, on Feb. 13.
The winner of SM Northwest/Lawrence High will play Harmon (8-12) or Blue Valley North (14-6, No. 4 in 6A) at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Blue Valley 61, Mill Valley 47
Mill Valley was unable to end the regular season at .500 after falling to Blue Valley, 61-47.
Despite the loss, the Jaguars (9-11) have won of their last 10 after starting the season 3-7.
Mill Valley will play host to Washington (6-13) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 5A sub-state semifinals. The winner will play St. James (5-15) or Wyandotte (12-5) at 7 p.m. Friday.
Olathe East 70, SM North 51
Shawnee Mission North couldn't slow down Olathe East in a 70-51 loss to the Hawks.
North started the season 7-5, but has dropped six of its last eight. The Indians (9-11) will try to get back against Olathe North (12-8, No. 6 in 6A) on track in the 6A sub-state semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Shawnee Mission North upended Olathe North, 69-62, on Dec. 15.
The SM North/Olathe North winner will take on Olathe South (8-12) or SM East (13-7, No. 9 in 6A) at 6 p.m. Saturday.
BV Northwest 56, St. James 23
St. James couldn't keep pace with Blue Valley Northwest in a 56-23 setback to 6A's top-ranked team.
The Thunder (5-15) will go for their second road win of the season over Wyandotte (12-5) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. St. James won its season opener against Wyandotte, 69-51, on Dec. 1. The winner will go up against Washington (6-13) or Mill Valley (9-11) at 7 p.m. Friday.
