After clinching the Frontier League title outright with a 61-52 win over Baldwin, the De Soto boys basketball team will play host to Leavenworth at 7 tonight in the Class 5A sub-state semifinals.

De Soto’s girls basketball team surged out to an 18-point lead, but they couldn’t slow down Baldwin in the second half of a 58-39 loss to the Bulldogs to close the regular season. The Wildcats will play host to Blue Valley Southwest at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Class 5A sub-state semifinals.
De Soto bowling trio, St. James’ Lawrence qualify for 5-1A state meet

De Soto bowlers Sean Cauthron, Tyler Lovegren and Maddy Calvello and St. James’ Carey Lawrence qualified individually for the Class 5-1A state meet at Friday’s regional at West Ridge Lanes in Topeka.
Mill Valley bowling teams, Maranatha’s Perry qualify for state out of 5-1A regional at Park Lanes

Mill Valley’s girls and boys bowling teams both earned top-three finishes at Friday’s Class 5-1A regional meet at Park Lanes to qualify for state. The Mill Valley girls squad was the regional runner-up behind a fifth-place series of 496 from Tori Benson. The Mill Valley senior posted a career-high game of 197, and her series was also a personal best. Bri Laluk also medaled after taking eighth. Kyle Hirner medaled for the Mill Valley boys with a ninth-place finish. Maranatha senior Brett Perry finished one spot ahead of Hirner in eighth with a 595 series to qualify for state for a third straight year.

Shawnee Mission Northwest senior Jerad Habben placed third and junior Charles Brockmann finished fourth to lead the Cougars at the Class 6A state wrestling tournament on Saturday in Park City. Shawnee Mission North seniors Alonso Salgado and Tanner Willmon and sophomore Alex Williams reached Day 2 to pace the Indians.
5A state wrestling: Mill Valley’s Ward goes out a winner; Lautt leads SJA; Four grapplers represent DHS

Mill Valley senior Conner Ward won a Class 5A state wrestling title on Saturday at Hartman Arena in Park City. Jarrett Bendure and Zach Keal were also state runners-up for the Jaguars. Bryson Markovich, Hayden Keopke and Brodie Scott rounded out the state medalists to help Mill Valley finish fourth in the 5A team standings. Sophomore Cade Lautt finished fourth to lead St. James. Four underclassmen represented De Soto at the state tournament.
