SMNW’s Nachbar nominated for McDonald’s All-American game

Shawnee Mission Northwest senior Jordann Nachbar was one of seven Kansas high school girls basketball players to be nominated to play in the McDonald’s All-American basketball game on Wednesday. The final 24-player roster will be announced on Tuesday. The game will be played on March 28 in Atlanta.
Third-quarter run helps SMNW past SMN, 57-48

Shawnee Mission Northwest’s boys basketball team picked up its second straight victory with a 57-48 win over SM North on Tuesday. C.C. Ghilardi led the Cougars with 23 points, and made two of his five 3-pointers during a 13-0 SM Northwest run to begin the second half. Jarrett Hensley scored 20 points to pace SM North.
Seibold steps up for SMNW in 47-31 win over SM North

With seniors Jordann Nachbar and Sarah Petersen and junior Hannah Black all battling foul trouble in the first half of the Shawnee Mission Northwest girls basketball team’s 47-31 win over SM North on Friday, the Cougars were in need of a spark on the offensive end. Enter junior Rachel Seibold. Seibold went into attack mode — scoring 12 of her game-high 21 points in the second quarter — to power the Cougars past the Indians. Sophomore LeLe Love led the Indians with 17 points.
Boys basketball roundup: Maranatha sets school single-game scoring record, ousts Oskaloosa

The Maranatha Christian Academy boys basketball team broke the school’s single-game scoring record in its 89-21 win over Oskaloosa on Tuesday. Jax Holland led a group of four Eagles in double figures with 32 points. Jonathan Jackson poured in 22 points, and Brock West and Jason Friesen added 17 and 12, respectively. St. James Academy jumped out to an eight-point halftime lead and led by one with six minutes to play, but Bishop Miege senior Jeremiah Robinson-Earl guided the Stags down the stretch to a 58-46 victory. De Soto was unable to overcome a 12-point halftime deficit in its 41-35 loss to Spring Hill.
Girls basketball roundup: Shupe sparks De Soto in comeback win over Spring Hill

De Soto sophomore Mackenzie Shupe scored 20-plus points for the fourth time this season, as she led the Wildcats to a 45-40 victory over Spring Hill on Tuesday. Shupe poured in a game-high 23 points and helped the Wildcats outscore the Broncos, 21-9, in the fourth quarter to erase a seven-point deficit. St. James Academy’s stretch of four straight games in against state-ranked teams came to an end with a 59-26 loss to Bishop Miege. Maranatha Christian Academy dropped its second straight game after falling to Oskaloosa, 49-25.
Mill Valley girls, St. James boys bowling teams win season openers

The Mill Valley girls and St. James Academy boys bowling teams kicked off their respective seasons with first-place finishes on Tuesday at Park Lanes. Mill Valley’s Bri Laluk and St. James’ Grant Huerter were crowned as the individual champions.
