Police: Wednesday’s shooting was not random

Shawnee Police continue to investigate after a 19-year-old woman was shot around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Temp Stop convenience store, 13515 West 63rd Street, at 4:42 p.m. after a 19-year-old woman called 911 reporting that she had been shot.

Recorded radio traffic indicated the woman was shot twice.

"It is not a random shooting," Major Sam Larson confirmed to Operation 100 News.

Police have not said how the victim and shooter are connected.

The woman was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas in "stable condition" according to Johnson County Med-Act.

In a news release, Major Sam Larson said, "officers checked the Cottonwood Park Apartments in the area of 63rd Street for evidence and the suspect."

The suspect was not located during the search. No description or vehicle information have been released.

Major Sam Larson confirmed to Operation 100 News that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Cottonwood Park Apartments.

The Cottonwood Park Apartments are located in the 6300 block of Widmer Road, two blocks west of the convenience store where the victim was located.

No other details have been released.
