Lenexa police investigating series of crashes and a carjacking
Lenexa Police are investigating after a man sped away from officers, crashed, carjacked a vehicle, and then caused a second crash.
Master Police Officer Danny Chavez of the Lenexa Police Department says at approximately 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the 8500 block of Quivira to check on a driver who was possibly passed out behind the wheel.
"Upon seeing officer arrive in the area, the suspect fled at a high rate of speed, crashing into several vehicles around West 87th Street and Quivira," Chavez said.
Officers located the suspect's wrecked vehicle abandoned in the 9100 block of Park Street a short time later, and officers began a search of the neighborhood.
"At around 4:50 p.m. officers learned that the suspect forced a victim out of the victim's vehicle and fled the area," Chavez said. "Approximately three minutes later, the suspect was involved in a crash, in the stolen vehicle, in the 9300 block of Lackman."
Again, the suspect ran from the crash scene into a neighborhood.
"The suspect has not been apprehended however we are working on a possible identification," Chavez said.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 30's, with a shaved or bald head. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with an orange logo on it. Police believe he may have tattoos on his arms or hands.
Lenexa Police were assisted in their search by officers from the Overland Park, Shawnee, and Kansas City, Missouri police departments along with deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and Johnson County Park Police.
