Shawnee Police assisting with Westwood crash investigation

January 17, 2018

— The Shawnee Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is assisting the Westwood Police Department after a one-car crash Wednesday morning.

In a news release, Westwood Police say they were called to the area of Rainbow Boulevard and West 47th Place about 6:08 a.m.

Officers found a 67-year-old Kansas City, Kansas woman in the car, which had driven across a grassy area and then hit a tree just south of Westwood City Hall.

Johnson County Med-Act transported the woman to the University of Kansas Medical Center where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

"Initially, it appears that there may have been a medical emergency involved in the accident," Westwood Police said in the release. "However, with the assistance of the Shawnee Police Department's Traffic Unit, the case remains under investigation."

Police say the woman was alone in the vehicle and no one else was injured.

"We are having difficulty notify family so the name is being withheld pending those contacts," Westwood Police said.

Anyone who may have information regarding this accident investigation is asked to contact Westwood Police dispatch at 913-782-0720 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
