Mill Valley wrestling falls to BVSW, 33-29, in top-five dual

After Blue Valley Southwest earned a one-point dual victory over the Mill Valley wrestling team on the Jaguars’ senior night last year, Travis Keal’s squad hoped to turn the tables on the Timberwolves on Wednesday at their place. The Jaguars (ranked No. 5 in Class 5A) went down to the wire with the Timberwolves (No. 3 in 5A) again on Wednesday, but they came up just short — falling to their Eastern Kansas League foe, 33-29. Zach Keal, Bryson Markovich, Conner Ward, Jarrett Bendure, Hayden Keopke and Ethan Kremer won their matches for the Jaguars. They’ll return to the mat at 6:30 tonight for senior night against Leavenworth.
MV boys swim and dive 2nd, SMNW 3rd, DHS 5th at Olathe South Invitational

The Mill Valley, Shawnee Mission Northwest and De Soto boys swim and dive teams were all in action at the Olathe South Invitational on Wednesday at Chisholm Trail Middle School. The Jaguars finished second after all three relay teams finished third or better. Shawnee Mission Northwest followed in third after Scott Klein won the 200-yard IM and 100-yard butterfly. The duo of Eli Gratz and Andre VanMeerhaeghe led De Soto to fifth place.

The Maranatha Christian Academy boys basketball team won its third straight game after defeating Meriden Jefferson West, 53-50, in the first round of the McLouth tournament on Wednesday. The Maranatha girls squad fell to Riverside in its first-round game of the McLouth tournament, 54-49. The Shawnee Mission Northwest boys basketball team suffered a 69-54 loss to Blue Springs South in its second pool play game of the Viking Classic at SM West.
Bowling roundup: De Soto’s Cauthron, Pingry win at KC Bowl

De Soto bowlers Sean Cauthron and Amaya Pingry both earned first-place finishes at Wednesday’s meet at KC Bowl. Cauthron guided the De Soto boys team to first place, while Pingry paced the DHS girls to second place. Maranatha finished second on the boys side and fourth in the girls team standings. Brett Perry (fifth place) and Stephanie Pang (fourth) led the way for the Eagles. Shawnee Mission North opened its season with third-place finishes at Olathe Lanes East. Brianna Hubenett finished fourth in the girls quadrangular, while Michael Rivera took sixth in the boys individual standings.
