SM North, DHS wrestling compete at De Soto duals
The Shawnee Mission North and De Soto wrestling teams both took the mat on Friday night for the De Soto duals.
Shawnee Mission North posted a record of 3-2, while De Soto went 2-3.
The first dual for the Indians and Wildcats was against each other, with SM North winning 36-36 on a tiebreaker. Justice Hulse, Alonso Salgado, Nick Wickham and Alex Williams all won by fall for the Indians. Lane Warner won via fall for the Wildcats.
The Indians went on to win their next two duals against Washington and Tonganoxie before ending the night with losses to Lansing and Bonner Springs. North edged Washington, 24-18, with Zack Jordan and Jeffrey Downey winning by fall. The Indians then won another 36-36 tiebreaker over Tonganoxie with Downey, Willmon and Williams all winning by fall.
Willmon had the only victory for the Indians in a 75-6 loss to Lansing after he won by fall. Salgado, Downey and Willmon rounded out the De Soto duals with wins by fall in a 58-24 loss to Bonner Springs.
The loss to SM North was one of two duals that De Soto lost in a 36-36 tiebreaker. The Wildcats also lost to Tonganoxie, 36-36, despite Warner, Luke Barger and Jacob Goodin winning by fall. Barger and Evan Werner won by fall, and Warner won a 4-1 decision in the Wildcats' 64-15 loss to Lansing.
Both of the De Soto's wins came in convincing fashion — 63-0 over Washington and 54-24 over Wyandotte. In the shutout against Washington, Barger, Werner, Warner, Goodin and Zak Kalafut all won by fall. Barger, Warner, Alex Macedo, Jackson Mocca, Alex Harris and Andrew Marquez won by fall against Wyandotte.
