Mill Valley boys swim and dive 3rd, De Soto 5th at BVW Invitational
The Mill Valley and De Soto boys swim and dive teams finished third and fifth, respectively at the Blue Valley West Invitational on Thursday.
Blue Valley West won its home meet with 478 points. Shawnee Mission South was a distant second with 278 points, while Mill Valley followed with 248. Osawatomie/Paola came in fourth with 193 points, and De Soto rounded out the team standings in fifth with 117.
Mill Valley's 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays both swam to second-place finishes. Logan Myers, Ethan Forristal, Avery Lawson and Cole McClure clocked in at 1:55.42 in the 200-yard medley relay. Lawson and Forristal were joined by Colby Beggs and Chris Sprenger in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Jaguars posted a time of 1:39.44.
Sprenger paced the Jaguars with top-three finishes in his individual events. The Mill Valley junior was the runner-up in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:05.37. Sprenger finished third in the 100-yard freestyle after touching the final wall in 52.48. Carter Lawson added a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.23.
Forristal followed Sprenger in fifth place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.33, and tied for fifth in the 50-yard freestyle after clocking in at 27.74.
Beggs and McClure earned respective fourth-place finishes in the 200-yard IM and the 500-yard backstroke. Beggs finished with a time of 2:18.03 in the 200-yard IM, while McClure came in at 5:49.08 in the 500-yard freestyle. Myers rounded out the top-five finishers for the Jaguars by taking fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.58.
McClure, Beggs, Myers and Sprenger closed out the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle after posting a time of 3:50.61.
De Soto finished fifth in three different events. Cole Peterson, Andre VanMeerhaeghe, Eli Gratz and Cale Marquis started off the meet with a fifth-place time of 2:02.02 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Gratz and VanMeerhaeghe notched respective fifth-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breaststroke. Gratz finished with a time of 1:04.51 in the 100-yard butterfly. VanMeerhaeghe touched the final wall in 1:14.20 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Wildcats and Jaguars will both return to the pool at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lansing.
