SMNW baseball rallies past SM East to win 6A regional title

The Shawnee Mission Northwest baseball team rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 3-2 win over Shawnee Mission East on Wednesday in the Class 6A regional championship game. Jordan Linderer hit a two-run single to tie it, and Ty Lindenman scored the go-ahead run on an error. George Specht struck out nine without allowing a walk while throwing a complete game. The Cougars advanced to next week’s state tournament at KU’s Hoglund Ballpark for the first time since 2015. A full recap will be posted later on shawneedispatch.com.
SMNW softball holds off Lawrence High before falling to Blue Valley in regional title game

The Shawnee Mission Northwest softball team edged Lawrence High, 5-4, in the Class 6A regional semifinals, but fell to Blue Valley, 7-4, in the championship game on Wednesday.
Play suspended between SMNW girls soccer, BVNW due to inclement weather

The Shawnee Mission Northwest girls soccer team and Blue Valley Northwest were still tied at 1-1 after 100 minutes on Wednesday in the 6A regional championship game at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex when inclement weather forced play to be suspended. The game will resume at 2 today. Unless a golden goal is scored in two five-minute overtime periods, the Cougars and Huskies will go into penalty kicks.
