De Soto defeated Gardner-Edgerton in four sets. Maranatha swept Harmon. Shawnee Mission Northwest upended Emporia before falling to Blue Valley Southwest.

Mahmoud Abu Zareefeh scored the golden goal with 2:53 remaining in double-overtime to guide Shawnee Mission North to a 2-1 win over Leavenworth on Thursday. Sam Goldman also scored for the Indians, who improved to 3-0.

The Shawnee Mission Northwest gymnastics team kicked off its season with a second-place finish on Wednesday in a home meet that also featured Olathe East, Olathe Northwest, Olathe West and De Soto. Celeste Gordon and Cierra Ladesich placed third and fourth, respectively, in the all-around competition for the Cougars. Zoe Kopp helped highlight the meet for SM Northwest by winning vault. Molly Stack led De Soto after tying for fifth in the all-around competition.

The De Soto boys soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to Shawnee Heights — falling 3-2, in double-overtime. Maranatha was unable to keep pace with Kansas City Christian in a 5-0 loss.

The St. James volleyball team completed its unbeaten homestand to open the season with a sweep of Blue Valley West on Tuesday. Shawnee Mission Northwest suffered losses to two top-five teams after coming up short against Gardner-Edgerton and Olathe Northwest. Maranatha gave Heritage Christian all it wanted, but lost in straight sets to the No. 1 team in 2A. Shawnee Mission North lost to Free State and Olathe North in its home triangular.
Mill Valley volleyball rallies from two sets down to upend BVNW

The Mill Valley volleyball team rallied from two sets down to defeat Blue Valley Northwest, 22-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-13, on Tuesday. The Jaguars overcame deficits of 7-1 and 13-10 in the fifth set. Taylor Roberts and Molly Carr recorded 15 and 14 kills, respectively, while Emma Fox chipped in a team-high five aces.

The Maranatha Christian Academy, St. James Academy, De Soto and Mill Valley football teams kicked off their respective seasons with victories on Friday. Maranatha coasted past Kansas City East, 72-22. St. James rolled to a 41-20 win over Blue Valley Northwest. De Soto won its United Kansas Conference debut over Leavenworth, 42-7. Mill Valley topped BV West, 35-24.
