Letters to the editor

Letter: Local Responsibility
August 18, 2010
Some of my former teachers/coaches are still my heroes. They’re underpaid, notwithstanding at least three months off every year. Policemen and firemen have always been worthy of community admiration.

Letter: Stop-and-go commute

Shawnee City Council is voting on the 2011 budget. City staff “options” are spending the city’s reserve funds or cutting services. The Council spends more time dreaming up ways to increase taxes rather than reduce spending.

In light of the recent off-shore oil spill now is a good time to fully appreciate the value of Kansas’ independent oil and gas producers. Kansas oil and gas producers have an excellent record of safety and contribute billions of dollars to the Kansas economy each year.

Point of View

Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?

I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
