Opendra "Bill" Narayan 1936 - 2007 Shawnee

Opendra (Bill) Narayan, D.V.M., Ph.D., 71, of Shawnee, passed died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at KU Medical Center. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. The family suggests contributions to Doctors without Borders, P.O. Box 5023, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Dr. Narayan was born Nov. 28, 1936, in Essequibo, Guyana. He was a Distinguished Professor and Chairman, Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology at the University of Kansas Medical Center School of Medicine since 1993. He previously had been a Director of Retrovirus Biology Laboratories, Division of Comparative Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md.

Dr. Narayan is survived by his wife, Moonie Narayan; a son, Euan Narayan, Shawnee; daughters, Brinda Narayan-Wold, Eugene, Ore., and Allaina Mackay, Shawnee; brothers, Jack Narayan and Robin Narayan; sisters, Paddy Naraine, Jassy Narayan and Kay Singh; grandchildren, Alec, Garrett, Conner, Aaron, Keb, Elizabeth and Dylan; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
