Joshua Kyle Gaffney 1993 - 2008 Basehor

Services for Joshua "J-Rod" Kyle Gaffney, 14 of Basehor, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery near Basehor.
Joshua died Sunday, April 27, 2008, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born May 29, 1993, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Tim and Vera Gaffney.
Joshua was a lifelong Basehor resident and he attended Basehor Middle School. He was active in school and sports, competing in football, baseball and wrestling. He was also member of the BLMS choir and band. Joshua was a scholar athlete and on the honor roll annually. He was listed in the "Who's Who" among America's most outstanding middle school students. He was a member of the 10th Calvary Gaming Club and spent many weekends traveling with his father and friends competing in gaming events. Joshua developed a special bond with his stepgrandfather, Don Shoemaker, working with him on his farm and caring for the farm animals. This is where Joshua developed his love of animals, which led him to his interest, in becoming a zoologist.
Survivors include his parents, Tim and Vera Gaffney, and sister, Amber Gaffney, all of the home; a half brother, Dennis Gaffney II, Holden, Mo.; maternal grandmother Joyce Shoemaker and husband Don, and maternal grandfather Fred Box and wife Lisa, all of Basehor; paternal grandparents Dennis and Judy Gaffney, Overland Park.
The family will receive friends at a visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the funeral home.
