Ted Loyd 1931 - 2008 Overland Park
A memorial service for Herman Theodore "Ted" Loyd, 77, were Monday, May 12, at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, Overland Park.
Mr. Loyd died unexpectedly Thursday, May 8, 2008, at St. Joseph Medical Center after complications from surgery.
He was born March 17, 1931, in Phillipsburg, Kan., the son of Elmer and Martha (Foster) Loyd.
He grew up on the family farm, the youngest of four children. He graduated in 1949 from Phillipsburg High School, where he met his future bride, Donna Hoverson.
Mr. Loyd served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He graduated from Washburn University in 1958.
During his 40-year career in the wholesale food industry, he lived in several Midwestern cities, including Tulsa, Okla., Oklahoma City, Topeka, Kan., Kansas City, Kankakee, Ill., and Emporia, Kan. He retired from EVCO in 1996 and moved back to Overland Park to be closer to family.
He was an active member of Kiwanis, Missouri Restaurant Association, Boy Scouts, and served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He always served as the family photographer.
Donna and Ted raised two children, Bruce Lane Loyd and Brenda Ellen (Loyd) Rumsey, both of Overland Park, KS. After Ted's retirement from EVCO (Emporia, KS) in 1996, he and Donna moved back to Overland Park to be closer to family.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Donna; a son, Bruce; a daughter, Brenda Rumsey; four grandchildren; and a sister, Opal Cannon.
The family suggests memorials to Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.
