Lunetta Anna (Memming) Pearce 1926 - 2008 Merriam

Services for Lunetta Anna (Memming) Pearce, MD, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church; burial in the Antioch Cemetery.
Dr. Pearce died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo.
She was born March 31, 1926, near Bloomington, Neb., where her parents, Herman and Lena (Stuhmer) Memming, farmed.
She attended one-room schools until she entered high school at age 12. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1942, Hastings College in 1946 and University of Nebraska Medical School in 1949 (at age 23, one of three women in class).
Lunetta met Eugene W.J. Pearce in medical school, and they married after graduation in June 1949. She served her internship in Washington, D.C., at Central Dispensary and Emergency Hospital.
They moved to Merriam in 1955. She was plant physician at the Hercules Plant in De Soto, and she also practiced in Johnson County until 2001. She was among the first women to practice in the Kansas City area and was president of the Johnson County Medical Society in 1986.
Dr. Pearce was active in family and community life. She participated PTA, was later active in her church (Trinity Lutheran), and she supported her husband's pro-life activities in the medical community.
Her husband died earlier.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Robert Pearce, Merriam, and James Eugene Pearce, College Station, Texas; a brother, Gerald Memming, Prairie Village; a sister, Linda Fisher, Bloomington, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the church and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to services.
