David W. Matthews 1947 - 2009 Shawnee

A memorial Mass for David W. Matthews, 61, Shawnee, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa.
Mr. Matthews died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born Oct. 29, 1947, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of John and Margaret Matthews. He graduated from Ward High School in 1965. He then attended Donnelly and Rockhurst colleges
Mr. Matthews was a 30-year member of Pipefitters Local Union No. 533 and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A grandson preceded him in death
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mary Ann; two daughters, Michele Fix and her husband, Mark, Shawnee, and Laura deNoyelles and her husband, Jeremy, Wichita; five grandchildren; a brother, John E. Matthews (Charlotte), Kansas City, Kan.; and a sister, Alice Fehrenbach (Don), Naples, Fla.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, where a rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Monday.

Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?

I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
