Rose Stechmann 1929 - 2009 Shawnee

Mass of Christian Burial for Rose Stechmann, 80, Shawnee, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Ceme-tery Mausoleum, Lenexa.
Mrs. Stechmann died Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
She was born April 11, 1929.
Her early education was at St. Mary Academy, Independence, Mo., and she was a 1950 graduate of the College of St. Theresa (Avila University) in Kansas City. She had worked for 18 years at Furr’s Cafeteria, and was known to customers as “the salad lady,” she told The Dispatch in a 2005 article.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee Garden Club and Ameri-can Legion Auxiliary.
Her popularity within the community was the impetus for her to be named grand marshal of the 2005 Old Shawnee Days Parade. “I just know a lot of people,” Mrs. Stechmann told The Dispatch in the 2005 article about her. “I'm just there for a lot of people and I love them. Every day I try to do a good deed for somebody. It makes you feel good.”
Her husband, Donald “Shoe” Stechmann, and a son, David Stechmann, died earlier.
Survivors include three sons, Fr. Michael Stechmann, Order of Augustinian Recollects, Los Angeles, Mark Stechmann, of the home, and Daniel Stechmann, Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the church, where a rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m.
