William Warren Gerfen 1917 - 2011 Shawnee
Mass of Chris-tian Burial for William Warren Gerfen, 94, was Tuesday, Dec. 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
Mr. Gerfen died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Sept 1, 1917, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Arthur F. and Mildred (Kauffmann) Gerfen. He was an Army veteran, receiving the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Medal during World War II. He worked 21 years for Columbia Steel Tank and 16 years for Farmland Industries, retiring in 1976. He was involved in the Kansas City Implement, Hardware and Tractor Club, N.A.R.F.E. and American Legion Post 370.
Survivors include a son, Warren (Joanne) Gerfen, Shawnee; a daughter Monica (Daniel) Madl, Shawnee; two grandsons, Craig (Christi) Gerfen, Shawnee, and Keith (Ali) Gerfen, Olathe; and four great-grandchildren.
His first and second wives, Irene Gerfen and Margaret (Huddleston) Gerfen, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Children’s Mercy Hospital or Sister Servants of Mary.
