Ariel was born on June 24, 1992, along with her twin sister Aubree May, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City. Ariel lived her life with passion and was passionate about all living creatures. She made friends easily and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She loved horses and took riding lessons for several years. Through the Safe Harbor Prison Dogs program in Lansing, KS, she volunteered at PetsMart adoption events. Ariel was very creative and learned to sing and play guitar on her own. She could do anything she set her mind to and worked hard at the various jobs she held.
She graduated in 2010 from Mill Valley High School, where she was on the varsity cross country team all four years. For two years, she attended Emporia State University, where she also ran cross country and made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
Ariel was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Dr. Kenneth and Shirley May; two uncles, Stephen May and Braden Frazier; and an aunt, Claudia Jean May.
Survivors include father John May of the home; mother Jea Castrop-May, Shawnee; sisters Aubree May and Katie Castrop, Shawnee; brother Braden Castrop, Kansas City; maternal grandparents Johnnie and Thyra Frazier of Larned, KS; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and friends.
For the funeral, Ariel directed that people come in brightly colored, casual clothes. (Jeans are OK.)
